Our Inner Struggles

We all struggle with that internal battle between what we “should” do vs. what we “want” or “feel” like doing.  You know . . . it’s the whole “angel and devil on the shoulder” sort of thing!

But, when someone is struggling with depression or anxiety, it can be paralyzing trying to figure out what to do.  With that, I often share the following story.

This tale has been around for years but I have yet to be able to authenticate its origins. Regardless, I find it to be extremely helpful so I am sharing it here with you.

A Native American Elder once described his own inner struggles:
Inside of me there are two dogs.
One of the dogs is mean and evil.  The other dog is good.
The mean dog fights the good dog all of the time.
When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied
“The one I feed the most.”
When you are struggling, which dog do you feed most?
